Martin Kollar

Slovakian. Born in 1971. Based in Prague.

He is Slovakian, not lacking humour and, in a country with a strong photographic tradition, has chosen the still image to document, in a particularly unique way, what is occurring in a changing area when the change from socialism to capitalism is combined with nationalist concerns. He immediately chose colour, using it with happiness, to offer us a collection of amusing snapshots of situations on the edge of absurdity, in respect of which he is aware of how to keep the correct distance to reveal the bizarre. His photography, completely disrespectful, has something of the jubilatory about it, while at the same time being a serious look at the way we occupy space, our lifestyle.
